Our long history in Galway

1965

Television trade service started by Tom O’Connor in St Mary’s road.

1967

Moved to Woodquay and opened first shop – Tom O’Connors TV Shop.

1968

Sold first black & white TV to Central Bar, Woodquay.

1970

Opened Galway’s dedicated Service & Repair shop in Sickeen, Woodquay.

1976

Opened 6,000sq ft shop at 2-3 Shop Street, Lipton’s old premises.

1977

Became first Sony agent for West of Ireland.

1978

Opened ‘Old-Pro Record Shop’ on Abbeygate street.

1979

Second television station “RTE2” starts transmission.

1981

Moved down the street to GTM at 14-15 Shop Street, a 10,000sq ft premises, main brands included Bush, Murphy and Philips.

1982

Became first Mitsubishi Dealer in West of Ireland.

1984

Installed first satellite dish to receive Soviet TV via satellite.

1985

Cablelink starts operations in Galway offering “multi-channel” services.

1995

Service Centre moves to Dock road overlooking Galway Bay.

1996

Opened Incredible Planet out-of-town superstore in Galway Retail Park with 15,000sq ft of retail space.

1999

Business consolidated to Mulvoy Park where purpose built premises were opened.

2017

O’Connors of Galway becomes O’Connors Audio Visual.

2021

O’Connors Audio Visual – servicing education, hospitality & commercial customers.
